Hello brave Hunter. If you're reading this, that means you've arisen from your blood soaked chambers, been accepted by the powerful dregs eye, finally strung the blood of heretics together, or taken your divine blood rite, and set out on your virginal night of hunting. This world is horrific, filled to the brim with ravenous beasts, maniacal vagabonds, and insane priests. But you alone are built to cut through the noise and destroy those that which threatens the holy church of the lords now lost. You must bring low the abominations that stand at the very cusp of humanity, for above all else...
Blood must spill.
Darkeaten is a gothic fantasy setting with a heavy emphasis on body horror and vampirism. This setting takes place in the far off land of Thorian, a land surrounded by a thick fog that clouds both the body and the mind, a land rotting from an ancient act performed within its bowels, a land locked in an eternal state of midnight. This land has fallen into complete madness, due both to the outbreak of the deadly dreg infection, a disease that warps its victims into horrific monsters, and it's venerated leaders, known simply as "The Lords" disappearing in a time of dire need. The remaining citizens of Thorian wall themselves off in massive cities, so large their darkest corners have never been touched by any sane man. The denizens of the great cities hide in fear of the deadly dreg infection, fearing it will warp them too into a monster beyond salvation. Their only defense against these beasts, the hunters, holy warriors of great renown, spurned foreword by the lordic church and the lords that once founded them. All things are ever rotting in Thorian, only one thing gives the citizens any semblance of hope in this rotten land, blood.
To put it in the simplest terms possible - it's fantasypunk. A fantasy setting with a cyberpunk feeling to it. massive cities bussling with crime and corruption, augmented people with strange abilities, body horror of multiple flavors, but all with a vampiric, sword and sorcery time period and aesthetic.
Darkeaten as a setting is designed to be game and media agnostic, you can use it as a setting for miniatures games, rpgs, stories, ocs, comics, whatever you choose. If you do, just link people back to the main setting and spread the word. I want this to become a collaborative art project of sorts, where everyone contributes to the greater canon of the setting. I'll post more here whenever I make more content for it, and what you want to consider "canon" is completely up to you.
For introductions sake, I'm Zar. I've made everything on this site and I'm the creator of the Darkeaten setting. I've been working on it since the beginning of the pandemic, starting as a setting for a D&D campaign I was running with my friends. Any art or stories I post I will make for sure to credit if they are made by anyone else but me, that kinda stuff is super important to me. Hold me to it, if I forget or become a scumbag in the future, use this against me.
